Bob Recht and Melanie Taylor bought their North Park dream home, a 2 story 1920’s Craftsman that had a small garage on the verge of collapse. Bob and Melanie are both artists, and their idea was to tear down the small garage and replace it with a new art studio.

The new modern studio which is a simple rectangle box, contrasts and compliments the old Craftsman style home. With cedar shiplap siding it mimics and blends in with the redwood siding on their old house. The tall aluminum and glass doors open up to create an indoor / outdoor space.

The 14’ high ceilings have exposed paralam beams with stained tounge and groove wood sheating. Lighting is everywhere, with spots for the art and industrial pendants both inside and out. Although the interior walls are all museum white, the wood gives the building a very warm feel.
