David and Miranda McGowan had a blank unusable space on the south facing side of their North Park Craftsman home. They wanted to make the space usable and create a design that matched the style and character of their home. The solution created a new porch that opened the Kitchen to a new outdoor deck, with flagstone paths and seating areas that defined the space.
The new deck is built with concrete walls that support the heavy timber trellis above. The concrete walls create benches with hidden shelves below to store their shoes. The deck is made of ipe wood and the accent lighting is all copper. The McGowans love their new porch and use it as their outdoor Dining Room. The swinging bench is a great place to read and it has become a special place in their house.
